Welcome to the Institute of Roman Law!

The Institute for Roman Law is a mediator bridging the gap between classical and modern law.

Students studying Roman law prepare themselves to learn and understand Civil Law. Methods practiced by legal experts in Ancient Roman help students to better understand legal thought and reasoning. The course "Romanistische Grundlagen der europäischen Zivilrechtsdogmatik" is mandatory during the first part of the Diploma degree program in Law.

The institute also offers several seminars and courses for students in various academic degree programs, including doctorate programs. Faculty members at the institute also supervise Diploma degree theses and dissertations.
